These earrings were inspired by my memory of being in a small restaurant in Hungary with my family while a gypsy family performed for us. A few of the men played violin while the women danced and twirled. I remember their layered clothing, the dresses blossoming out when they twirled around and around. It was in that restaurant that I was first introduced to the spice paprika and I remember loving the color…and flavor!
Esmerelda is the name of the gypsy in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame and it was the only gypsy name I knew, so there you go.
The Esmerelda earrings are made with cascading layers of pearl and Czech glass and are held together by solid copper components. The twisted copper ring at the base is for the twisting skirts of the twirling gypsies, while the overall color is reminiscent of the spice paprika. Esmerelda measures 2.25″ from the top curve of the ear wire.
